LONGEVITY TIPS
- Drive your car gently until the manual transmission
has warmed up, especially in cold weather. Hot transmission oil flows
better and lubricates moving parts better than cold transmission oil does. This
will minimize gear wear.
- If you miss a shift and grind the gears
excessively, change the transmission oil immediately. This will prevent
metallic shavings from damaging other parts of the transmission.
- When starting an engine with manual transmission on
a very cold day, be sure the clutch is depressed. That way, the starter
does not have the additional burden of rotating transmission gears slowed down
by heavy gear oil.
